Merriam-Webster lists the following as synonyms for the word certainty; assurance, confidence and surety. As Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), we offer assurance services when we prepare audited, reviewed or compiled financial statements for our customers. But why hasn’t our profession offered assurance (certainty) of price? Why do we still insist on billing clients by the hour? More importantly, why do clients allow this to happen?
At CDH, we believe the time has come to offer certainty of price to our customers and get away from billing by the hour. We want to provide assurance of pricing and let our customers know the price they will pay for our services before we begin any work–not after our hourly billing worksheets get prepared once we complete the project.
Isn’t it time that business owners not only ask for assurance services from their CPA firm but also demand assurance (certainty) of pricing?
We’d love to hear your thoughts.
